Our Sicilian Ferla honey is produced on the island of Filicudi, in the Palermo area, in the month of June.

Ferla's Sicilian Honey has a delicate and slightly fruity aroma as well as its flavour.

What is Ferla?

Ferla is a wild plant typical of the Mediterranean scrub, very widespread in Sicily. The scientific name is Ferula communis L. , it is a wild relative of fennel (it is also popularly called fennel) but does not produce edible seeds.

In some areas of Sicily, the trunks are used to make craft objects (stools or small tables), and in ancient times, bugni were also made, i.e. hives for the traditional breeding of Sicilian bees, while the flowers are particularly appreciated from insects.

This Sicilian Honey from Ferla da Ape Nera Sicula which is a Slow Food Presidium , is produced on the island of Filicudi during the month of June, with a natural method to preserve the fragrance, perfumes, enzymes, antioxidant and antibacterial properties typical of the freshly extracted honey.

It has a light amber color that turns to ocher when the honey crystallizes, very slowly and creamily. The scent is delicate and reminiscent of ripe fruit; on the palate the fruit is reconfirmed with a good sweet-acid balance.

Pairings:

Ferla's Sicilian Honey is a honey with a delicate, fruity flavor and is medium sweet, perfect with fresh cheeses. Excellent to try with lightly seasoned toma.

Carlo Amodeo 's honeys are extracted by centrifugal force , they are not subjected to any heat treatment and the nectar is extracted in untreated hives, so in addition to being very tasty, they keep their natural properties intact.
