The Sicilian Etna Rosso Doc Calderara Sottana wine is liquid stone, this wine is our tribute to Etna.

The Etna Rosso DOC “Calderara Sottana” is produced with pure Nerello Mascalese grapes from the vineyard of the same name, characterized by the presence of plants over a century old.

After harvesting by hand, fermentation in steel takes place which involves a long maceration on the skins. Subsequently the wine is left to mature in wood for 15 months.

CALDERARA SOTTANA is the small spot (the local definition is "contrada") on the northern side of the volcano at almost 700 m. above sea level.

This area is capable of providing some of the highest temperatures of the volcano slopes on extremely rock-rich dark terrain.

This brings an incredible and powerful consistency to the Sicilian Etna Rosso Doc Calderara Sottana wine, which represents the maximum expression of our best single grape variety, the first with which we started working, the one with the oldest vines, the one always capable of surprising flavors and in the structure of the wine.

We have mapped the oldest vines of pure Nerello Mascalese, selected by nature and by the expert hands of our ancestors. Tackling this vineyard is a formidable job: everything must be done separately and by hand.

You can't stick to a schedule, you just need to give the screws the necessary time, without rushing, without ever stopping.

It is a challenge of physical resistance against the booming fertility of the soil, uninterruptedly distributing any type of herb among the vines, trying to slow down the unstoppable race of the plant towards maturation, giving it the right rhythm, suffering together with the delivery, both men that exhausted vines, the miracle of all the magnetic energy of the volcano in the grapes.
