History of Torroncini:
Sicily, home of cannoli and cassata, boasts another jewel in the crown of pastry making: Sicilian nougats. A mix of crunchiness and sweetness, known and appreciated all over the world. The history of nougat is veiled in an aura of mystery and it seems that it has come a long way before arriving on our tables. Its origins appear to be Chinese: in fact, it is precisely from China that the almond, a fundamental ingredient of Sicilian nougats, historically comes from. According to some, it was the Arabs who brought it to Sicily, according to others its recipe was handed down to us by the ancient Romans. Nougat, however, is considered a traditional dessert also in other Italian regions. In fact, in various Italian dialects the words cupeta , copeta , copata and cupetta are recorded, which refer precisely to sweets similar to nougat or brittle.Sicilian nougats for sale online on our shop www.emporiosicilia.it
